The first review
for the Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix movie has crossed the wires. The movie premiere today in Tokyo and the reviewer gives the movie three out of five stars.
The chief problem, though, is not really a fault of the film but the near universal Potter-literacy of its prospective audience. Most Potter fans are now laser-focused on the release of the climactic seventh book in three weeks' time and its promise to bring together the countless loose ends.
This editor would like to point out that my rating for the movie would not be so low and we at HPANA will post our reviews on July 11th.
UPDATE: Yet other reviews here
and here
of the movie have appeared online, which are much more favorable than the one above.
UPDATE: II: Here is a review from The Hollywood Reporter
and one from The Sun
from the UK.

Bright Eyes! 3/5 is what i would have given it too. I went to the Myspace premier and the movie was good if you are not a fan but only really okay if you are a fan. Obviously they couldnt put everything in a 2hr and 30min movie but there were sooo many things that fans were looking for but didnt happen. Also some of the things were out of order therefore making other parts that correspond with it seem alot more insignificant and worst of all the part that everyone was waiting for the really freakin excellent part at the end of book five, the part with all the action and crazyness between Dumbledore and Lord Voldermort was pretty freakin awesome but not that acurate so it kinda pissed me off a little. and sirious death was really lame they could have done it sooooo much better. I am probably a little biased because OOTP is my favorite book so far but yeah not that acurate. I would compare it to movie 3. all the non-readers loved it, said it was beautifully exicuted and what not but the readers were like What the hell they left out sooo much and added this crap that wasnt even in there.
Also i was standing outside of the movie theater for 36 hours and by the time i got into the theater i was pissed, cranky, and excited at the same time so maybe that was also a factor.

Hmm,3/5 is not what I expected, given the trailers and the boost in acting abilities everyone was discussing. But then, all Potter movies are extensively criticised by reviewers but we end up loving them anyway,so I'm not really that worried! But Jorel, what changes did they make and what important things did they leave out? I sent you a mail, please reply to it if you can:-)

Who cares what they got to say. Usually, people that are not Potter freaks doesn't really think it's that good. That's what happened to Pirates of the Caribbean 3, my dad got all angry that the New York Post only gave it 2 1/2 stars.

I think that the movies need to stick more to the book, no matter how long the movie is, if people have stayed to watch titanic, and countless other 3 hour-long movies, then why do the fim makers think we will not watch a 3 hour long harry potter movie, that one hour could make all the difference in the world.

I think that the movie would get better reviews if the book wasn't coming out so soon. I am sure that is why they normally space them out more. I am sure it is good and I am sure the book will be too.

I just hope that everyone can keep their shirt on about the movie, as we can't put so much pressure on it. I really am looking forward to seeing the movie and only expecting to enjoy how the book is brought to life.

One thing that I noticed was that many people stated the fact that this movie is lacking in the 'fun' area... did these critics not bother to read the books? There is very little in the book that was fun. Heck -- most of the critics' problems with the movie seem to be what most peoples' problems with the book were when it first came out. It's long, Harry is an angry brat, and there is very little fun and excitement in it.
So, in my opinion, until someone does a fan review that breaks down what scenes are in and which are out it sounds as if they stuck pretty close to the book's storyline. Which will make it brilliant in my opinion. :)

I guess there will always be someone complaining and criticizing the movies. More often than not, I just ignore them, judging the movie for myself. It's sure to be a good one.

Haha, oh yeah, I keep forgetting that it's been released already! I'm here stuck in the past with the news articles - I need to catch up. Okay, let's see what all those people who aren't me have to say. Whoa, Japanese people are harsh! Three out of five? That's like 60% - that's bad! Heh, okay good, so you guys have seen it already - I can't wait to read the reviews!
