With the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows just a few weeks away, TIME magazine has put together a special which appears in today's issue of the magazine.
The special
coverage in the magazine includes:
Harry Potter and the Sinister Spoilers
:
Behind-the-scenes interviews with the keepers of the final Harry Potter manuscript.
This is the moment of ineffable, intangible ecstasy that occurs when a reader opens his or her brand-new $34.99 copy of Deathly Hallows for the first time. "All the way through the process, everybody who touches this [manuscript] has the same goal in mind," says Arthur A. Levine, Rowling's editor. "Midnight. Kids." The magic moment is a rare and delicate thing: it occurs only when the reader comes to the book in a state of pure ignorance, with no advance knowledge of its contents. For the magic moment to happen, the theory goes, the reader's mind must be preserved in a state of absolute innocence—it must be, in Internet parlance, spoiler-free. So to preserve the magic moment against informational contamination—via the Web or watercooler conversation or the Rita Skeeters of the global media—Scholastic has created an infrastructure around Deathly Hallows unlike anything the publishing world has ever seen.
The Epic Saga of the Seventh Manuscript
: Or, how the supersecret final Potter tale went from finished draft to hardcover book in 10 very careful, complicated steps.
Curing Harry Potter Withdrawal
: Wondering what to do once Harry’s gone? If you loved J.K. Rowling’s series, try these other magical books.
The 5 Great Unanswered Questions
: What is Scholastic working so hard to protect? Answers. The first six books have left a lot of loose ends. Here’s a recap.
Thanks to TIME for sending over the information.

I agree with that quote about spoilers. Since we look forward reread the past books so often, when a new book comes out, I love the feeling of not knowing what's about to happen. It's an emotion we don't feel often

It crazy the process they go through to get the book made, whoever is traveling with it at what ever time must feel like a secreat agent and if anyone were to find out they had the story all would go wrong!! haha

This is great material, and just what one needs to get them through the next month before the release. The behind the scenes information was really informative.

I'll definitely be getting this issue, but I will probably not read it until after I've read Deathly Hallows. So far, I have stayed away from all information about the book, and I intend to keep it that way. I've also avoided all trailers, commercials, and most photos of the upcoming film. I'm doing everything I can to preserve the possibility of having that "magic moment".

I was happy to read this. I really have not had any of the books spoiled. I stay offline a week before the book comes out, I rarely watch the news, and I buy the book at midnight and read it before morning. I may try to go slower on this one and try to savor it but I really don't hold out much hope.
My only problem is my husband reads much more slowly and I can not discuss the book until he is finished.

"...or watercooler conversation or the Rita Skeeters of the global media..." - This one made me laugh, really. I'm so glad that spoilers will be kept secret - as they say. the reader has to be a in a fully inocent status before he or she starts to read it... I'm SO looking forward to buy it! I just hope that some library around here will do a midnight release party (and a proper one, since the last one, when the portuguese translation for the HBP was released, completely sucked - whomever did it didn't read the book and thought it was only for little kids... oh well.) - i'll be definetly there with more people and we'll be the first ones to buy it!!!

So I know that when I go to Borders today after work to pick up my Snape figure, I will also buy a copy of the Time magazine. Can't imagine life without further HP books, but I guess we can all help each cope. How sad.

I loved the step-by-step journey of the manuscript - very interesting and mysterious wondering how they got millions of copies printed (somewhere?) with minimal people viewing it. I bet it was like those reality shows like "The Bachelor" where you have to sign an agreement to pay $5 million if you leak the ending to anyone - it would be even more strict for this, I bet! SO EXCITED!!!
