David Yates, who will be directing Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince starting in September has commented
that the next movie is "...less intense on one level. It's more sex, drugs, and rock 'n' roll."
Both Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson comment on his directing skill of Order of the Phoenix and the fact that he is coming back for a second time.
Daniel on working with David:
I think he managed to take the charm and visual flare of the earlier films and add his own sense of grit, that perhaps was not there before. He is a delightful man, very soft-spoken. Yet I have never been pushed as hard as I was on this film, partly because of the nature of the story, and partly because of his directing.
He always wanted me to go deeper.
Emma says:
The word I most connect with David is truth. He always wanted to find the truth in all the characters and in every single performance. We relished that. It stopped us getting complacent the fifth time around.
It was really lovely because David listened to what we had to say about our characters. He was respectful of the fact that we have been playing these people for five films now.

As the actors have said before David Yates sounds like a very nice director to work with and for when filming. I have enjoyed everything I have watched that he has directed. I can't wait to see the OoP.

Is more what and less WHAT ???? I think it's rubbish... but I think he's a good director overall.. apart from cutting things off the storyline of the books, we'll just wait & see

I wonder what he means by that (sex, drugs, and rock 'n' roll). Oh well, we'll see. Still I hope they will do all the pensieve scenes alright. That must take up quite a lot of the time.

Are you serious! My middle name is S,D, and R'n'R! Well, not really, but it makes a great movie. I picture HBP to be a bit more angsty and to be...well, it's going to be a movie adored by fans but shrugged off by movie-goers.

That was a great interview, and he is so insightful with the Harry Potter characters. I can't WAIT to see how he treats Half-Blood Prince!
I love Emma's comment of: He always wanted to find the truth in all the characters and in every single performance. We relished that. It stopped us getting complacent the fifth time around.
That's a real worry if the actors get complacent, so I'm glad some new blood was injected into OotP!

HAHA!
just reading that headline cracked me up!
if its more sex, drugs, and rock 'n' roll then maybe they need to bump up the rating to R?

Sure, there is a lot of snogging in the book, but it's hardly less intense, considering that students parents are dying left and right, and the security on Hogwarts is more elaborate than ever. Not to mention all the cave, the tower, etc. Hmmm...I dunno how I feel about that comment.

I think we will all be in for a great treat. Yates, sounds like a man for detailes. I know,as a Harry Potter Book fan, that I love all the colorful insight to each and every character J.K.Rowling has spun on paper.

Um...sex and drugs, though? What the heck? Were we reading the same book?

I appreciate the fact that the various directors keep the story alive and as true to the books as they possibly can. David Yates sounds like a director who believes in continuity from movie to movie.

Well THAT'S interesting! It seems like a contradiction though, since sex, drugs, and rock n roll MEANS more intense and in your face. I wonder on what level he's talking about that the film will be less intense. But the 'sex, drugs, and rock n roll' seems like a good sign. I guess it will be a 'different kind' of intensity.
I saw an advanced screening of OOTP and it ROCKED!!! So, I'm glad that David Yates is staying on for HBP. :)

I don't necessarily understand his particular interpretation of the sixth installment, but to each their own, I suppose. He does seem to comprehend the stories in the way the fans do, from what I have seen so far, so I am optimistic about his work on the next film.

I think we will simply have to wait and see what he means; I admit that I'm not entirely sure I understand his take on the book but I'll hold off judgement until it's release.
I will mention that I care most about the HBP movie seeing as how the 6th book is my favorite of the series.

I think he should be more worried about the penseive sceans than the "sex, drugs and rock and role". The whole Ron/Hemrione Ginny/Harry and Ron/Lavender thing is important but it's not super crucial to the plot. Hopefully this doesn't interfere with the main story...I would hate to see any penseive sceanes cut. And hoprfully HBP is longer than OotP.
