At the U.S. premiere of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix Sunday, producer David Heyman confirmed to HPANA the casting of two 11-year-old red-haired children for the next film, Half-Blood Prince, which is set to begin filming in September.
The actors -- Taylor Triphook (a boy) and Katie Head -- will play minor twin characters who are not culled from JK Rowling's sixth novel. Heyman did not elaborate further. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is expected in theatres November 2008.

Why?!? They can't even get in characters from the book. Why can't Dobby be in another movie, why haven't we met charlie and Bill, they were going to cut out kreacher until JKR said something. Why add random characters when most people would like to see the characters from the book.

Ok, they have to cut things out of the book to make the movie fit into 2 and a half hours, but they are going to add characters? I think they are starting to feel a bit too free with this whole thing, and they need to start sticking with the books a bit more. They seem to want us all to know that these children are both red-heads, so for some reason I'm thinking that they are going to be relatives to the Weasleys. I really wish they wouldn't add characters. Just go with the characters in the book!!!

He said it in a way that made me think they are going to be characters that are in some way humorous, so I think that precludes them from being any of the orphans Tom Riddle deals with.
This is pretty intriguing, but I agree that it's totally strange when they add these characters. We'd all love to see more from the books, not made up stuff. And if they're in there for some kind of comic relief, we've got Fred & George for that. They're still very much in HBP. Anyway, I've just considered that the new twins may be customers at the joke shop or something.....hummmmm.....
