This shouldn't be a surprise to fans but with only five days of release behind it Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix has garneredopens in new window over $330 million from worldwide sales.

Domestically the movie has grossed $140 million since opening last Wednesday, making it the number one movie this weekend in the U.S. where it made $77.4 million. Overseas the movie reaped more than $190 million.

By comparisonopens in new window, in its first five days the movie is $30 million ahead of Goblet of Fire and over $40 million ahead of the last summer Potter release, which was Prisoner of Azkaban. Still, the fifth moive in the franchise didn't make as much in total as the previous movies for weekend tallies.

Dan Fellman, head of distribution for Warner Bros. said:

We're in the middle of summer, and we just said why not, because kids are out of school. It certainly turned out to be the right decision.

Order of the Phoenix did more business in five days than each of the first three Harry Potter movies did in their first full week, and it nearly matched the $146 million first week total of the fourth film, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

UPDATE: The movie has also brokenopens in new window virtually every opening box office record at IMAX® theatres during its debut, contributing $7.3 million of the $140. The fifth movie also broke the record for IMAX's largest single day worldwide total at $1.9 million and posted a domestic opening per screen average of $80,500.

That's incredible. More than double their budget of around 150 million. I'd be happy. And of course there's still however many weeks left of ticket sales. That's only 5 days worth!

Wow. That is a lot of money!

I'm surprised with how much money OOTP has made. I never knew how quickly the movie passed all of the other four.

The movie is excellent. I'm glad that it had made so much money.

I don't think the movie will earn more than Goblet actually. Because this film - people may think they're good, people will think they're boring. So this time around, it's really more of a matter of preferences really...

That's a lot of money in only five days. But then again this HP and the kids being out of school doesn't hurt either.

Those really are some impressive numbers. Let's just hope that it continues to do well. It does seem like each movie has been doing better than the previous movie. This franchise is probably one of the most successful to hit the big screen ever.

Wow big numbers.
However all the sequels are falling a bit shorter than what everyone was expecting them to make. Pirates didn't make as much as was anticipated.

That's a lot of money. They did a great work!
However, it wasn't surprising.. OotP is the best of all five movies, and lots of people already seen it, and many more will.
Film was amazing, and it's even more spectacular on IMAX (the sound and the final duel between Dumbledore and Voldemort in 3D are just amazing)..
Anyway, I bet 6th and 7th films will be as good as OotP.. Or even better :D
