Thanks to "the worst kind of Muggles" -- those who ruthlessly attempted to spoil the enjoyment of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince on HPANA in 2005 -- we've implemented a comprehensive set of protection policies for Deathly Hallows, which are now live.
Unfortunately they are rather strict and cripple much of the site's functionality, but we would like to err on the side of caution rather than convenience. As such, members who joined after July 1st, 2007 or who have less than 100 points will not be able to post in HPANA's forums at all, effective immediately. External images and links have been disabled until after the book release, and the Wizard Wire Service on HPANA's home page has been temporarily removed.
We hope these and other minor changes will help ensure a spoiler-free experience on the site. Please don't hesitate to contact one of the moderators if you find something spoilery anywhere on the site.
Also note that any spoilers (scans of the book, chapter or plot summaries or elements) prior to its official release at 12:01 a.m. on July 21 will be removed and the poster's details, including IP address, will be forwarded to the Harry Potter publishers and JK Rowling's office. (Not to mention, banned from HPANA.)

Thank you for doing this! I was really worried about it being spoiled for me somehow, I think I might actually stay away from the computer altogether the couple days before!! :)

On one hand I appreciate the efforts to keep spoilers from the site..but by forbidding people with less than 100 points from posting on the forums that means that I cannot post there either. =[
Oh well. It's all for a greater good.

I just want to thank you for being so diligent in keeping the enjoyment of the final book intact. HPANA has always shown the greatest respect for both the author and the individual reader! My only problem now, will be having to discipline myself so that I read it from front to back (and not the other way around!!)

Excellent. I'm liking that the major HP sites are being very weary this time around. We only get this feeling once, hopefully no one ruins it.

Kind of a bummer that such drastic steps have to be taken, but I suppose it's necessary. Unfortunately, there are plenty of other places online where spoilers will be posted, so I'm just going to speed through reading the book before someone inadvertantly or intentionally lets something slip.

I'm a tiny little bit disappointed that I can't use my beautiful siggys anymore, but other than that, I think it's a brilliant idea... not to mention that it will make mod's jobs a lot easier! :)

Yes these precautions are excellent, but I will hopefully be avoiding the internet and trying not to see any papers or news over the weekend until I have read the book through - very quickly the first time!!

Cheeser, first of all, I hope you are feeling better! As a registered nurse, I know a bit about what you are going through. My oldest daughter also had it, when she was about 4 years old, and I know how scary it was for me. Anyway, hurry up and get well soon. You are very missed when you can't be around!
As for the protections put into place, I think they are awesome. I just hope and pray it will all work. So far I have managed to avoid most of the ones that have been on the site. I just hope those weren't accurate...
Thanks for all you do, the great site you have given us fans, and for working so diligently to keep everyone's reading pleasure unspoiled! (pun intended) **smiles**

Unfortunately, MSNBC spoiled the ending for me already. I didn't think they would blurt it out on network television.

Well, this kind of stinks, all though I can see why HPANA would want this rule in place. I wish I had joined HPANA way earlier. I'll just have to get that last ten points, so I can post again. :]]

That's brilliant, thanks for doing that HPANA. I really don't want to get spoiled before Friday, especially since we've done so well up until now.
I have tried to stay away from here, but it is so difficult so I bet we all appreciate your efforts this week.
See you all on Monday next week and Happy Reading!!!

Well its good to know that there will be some protection here on HPANA. And I remmember in 2005 they also closed HPANA for a couple of days.

I agree in principle that you need these protections, but surely May 31st is a little early? After all, the truly vindictive tend not to have HPANA accounts already so perhaps it would be better to temporarily disable registration? Oh well, I'll be avoiding the internet until I've finished so I'm not affected.

That's a really nice idea.
But I have some complaints - yesterday I found out that the Bulgarian edition of DH is coming out on December 13 (!).
So Bulgarian HP fans have to restrain themselves from using the Internet (or just live under a rock) until then,if they don't want to get spoiled.
Hopefully I'm going to buy the book in English and stay somewhere away from the world around until I've read it.

It is great that HPANA is doing this. I wasn't a member of the site for the last book , so I have no idea what happened last time. since it is the last book, I would hate for it to be spoiled.

Well i think not allowing people who have less than 100 points has been a bit unfair for me. I am a regular visitor of the site , but i dont post much cause of the lesser time frame that i have and also cause i am from a different time zone i have difficulty in following discussions.
But ya , on the other hand I do really appreciate the efforts you are putting in so that reading the last book is not spoilt .
