Is JKR working on a Scottish crime novel? Popular (2926)

Source: The Times

Is JK Rowling writing a crime novel? According to crime novelist Ian Rankin (a neighbor of Jo's) she is. Rankin toldopens in new window a reporter at an Edinburgh literary festival that his wife had "spotted her writing in a cafe" and speculated whether she was "writing her Edinburgh detective novel."

UPDATE: Rankin has since said this was a joke perpetuated out of control by the press.

Wow, that would be great!!! a crime novel from her pen... I mean she really knows how to mislead us, and hide small pieces of information in little tid-bits and clues :) I'm waiting nervously for whatever she is working on :)

Hmm, I dunno how much I like the idea of JKR doing something like that. It just seems so strange. Oh, well, we'll see if there's anything to this rumor.

I'm sure she'd be really great at writing a crime novel because she write suspence and mystery so eloquently, however that makes me sad, I can't get over the magical world! Not to mention besides Sherlock Holmes I'm not much interested in any related 'crime' genres.

That would be very interesting! And a little wierd all at the time. It's hard to think of jkr writing anything else besides HP! I'm sure that it would be excellent-but still odd none the less.

I really doubt she would actually tell anybody, especially someone who would broadcast it to the world, what her new plans are. I thought she wanted to take a well deserved break. If this information is true a crime novel sounds great and I will buy anything she writes.

She didn't take much of a break if she is writing a book already! Wow, not that i'm complaining. I am looking forward to reading JKR's books after Harry Potter.

Well this is an interesting rumor.

Won't it be funny if it turns out that Jo was sitting there writing out a "to-do" list and everyone has jumped to the conclusion that she is working on her next book? Of course, I am not sure about a mystery novel but what ever makes her happy.

My goodness, why can't people leave JKR be? She made it clear that she was going to take a break from writing so that she could spend time with her family. I think that perhaps Mr. Rankin is in need of publicity himself? She will let us know what she's up to when she's ready.

It would be interesting if she is doing such a thing but at this point in time, it's nothing more than mere speculation. So i really don't understand why the press and all the other writers are making such a big deal about it. And besides, there's no proof that it really is going to be a crime novel right??

Why can't she just be sitting at the cafe writing in her diary and reflecting and how blessed she has been. I mean seriously, this could be nothing more than making a mountain out of a molehill.

oh well. I guess even popular writers like Ian Rankin are waiting for JKR's next book huh??

cheers!!

Well, why not? There's no super-famous crime writter in Scotland so far -at least that I know- so I wouldn't mind JK to become the first one. Edinburg is perfect for crime and mistery, so she will probably master the topic. Go for it, JK!!!

Would certainly be a different route from before. That said, I agre with other people's comments, that given the furore reagrding the publication of the last book and the new film, it would perhaps be a good idea to give the poor woman a break.
