Is JK Rowling writing a crime novel? According to crime novelist Ian Rankin (a neighbor of Jo's) she is. Rankin told
a reporter at an Edinburgh literary festival that his wife had "spotted her writing in a cafe" and speculated whether she was "writing her Edinburgh detective novel."
UPDATE: Rankin has since said this was a joke perpetuated out of control by the press.

It sounds like JKR has decided to focus on an older audience. I know the HP series captured all age groups, but it seems a crime novel would be more focused for adults. If it is anything like HP (lots of subtle things that mean a lot in the end), it will be brilliant.

Well...I really shouldn't get too excited, seeing as it's not OFFICIAL. But that would be AWESOME if she wrote a crime novel! The thing is....if I read it, I'd try comparing it to Harry Potter, and...yeah. But, I would really be interested in what other stories she has out there. It's hard to think that she won't write another sentence for Harry Potter :(

Hm, that would be cool if she did a crime novel. I know my mom would probably read it as she's into that stuff, and I probably would too. I like crime things but I've never read a crime novel. I'm interested to see what she'll come out with next.

I'm very excited at the prospect that JK Rowling is writing again, however, I never ever saw her maybe going down the crime route... Anyway I'd be pleased to read anything at all that she write. Like my dad says, I'd read the phone directory if she wrote it ;)

Jo said she was working on two things one for adults and one for children. She is taking a break, it does not mean she is not writing it means she writes when she wants and does not have a deadline. If she does not feel well or has no inspiration she does not have to work that day.
