Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling will be the principal speakeropens in new window at this year's Harvard Commencement ceremony in June, where she will also receive an honorary degree.

President Drew Faust saysopens in new window of the event:

Perhaps no one in our time has done more than J.K. Rowling to inspire young people to experience the excitement and sheer joy of reading. Her tails of Harry, Ron, and Hermione and their Hogwarts adventures have cast a spell on millions of readers around the world. Harvard isn't exactly Hogwarts, but I'm sure that her visit with us this June will be a moment of magic for J.K. Rowling's many admirers across the University.

Hmmm... seems the president needs to check for homophones... :-P

Meanwhile... I live in Boston... and though I always get lost when I cross the river to Cambridge, I did it to see Michael Palin and I'll do it again if I can see Jo Rowling! Lots of my friends went to Harvard... *plots* ;-)

I think there's not much I can possibly say. Oh my GOD! Way to go Jo. And what the president of Harvard said is very true. I think no one has done for literature what JK has done: Kids were so intent, and still are, on TV, internet, video games, etc. But with a splendid story, she made the whole world read again.

Thank you Joanne Kathleen Rowling.

I remember discussing the Potter series making its way to University-some time ago on this forum-well, this is it. J.K. Rowling invited to Harvard to deliver a speech and be awarded a degree is a well-deserved recognition for her talent. I hope she will write more. Congratulations!

Nothing to do with tails, I believe.
