Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling will be the principal speaker
at this year's Harvard Commencement ceremony in June, where she will also receive an honorary degree.
President Drew Faust says
of the event:
Perhaps no one in our time has done more than J.K. Rowling to inspire young people to experience the excitement and sheer joy of reading. Her tails of Harry, Ron, and Hermione and their Hogwarts adventures have cast a spell on millions of readers around the world. Harvard isn't exactly Hogwarts, but I'm sure that her visit with us this June will be a moment of magic for J.K. Rowling's many admirers across the University.

That's such an honor for Jo to receive a degree from there! How I'd like to be able to hear her speech in June. Now is the time to be graduating from Harvard.

This is incredible!!! I read this on MuggleNet a few weeks ago. It proves so many things for J.K. Rowling, and affirms her status as one of the greatest authors, ever, because of the gift of the epic that she's given to all of us fans! She's inspired me to write, and plenty of kids I know probably wouldn't be reading as much as they do now were it not for HP. I'm actually trying to go to this (my friend and I are), do you think it'll be possible to get in? (:

Congratz to Rowling!
Yes, she was really an inspiration to all the young people out there, like those who discovered a love and joy in reading through her Harry Potter books. She has also given young people the chance to escape and dream - escape from their own lives and to experience an alternative school that is so similar yet so different to ours.
