The South Bank Awards
took place at the Dorchester Hotel in London today with Lord Richard Attenborough presenting
author J.K. Rowling an award for outstanding achievement in the arts in recognition of the Harry Potter series.
In an backstage interview
from the event Rowling states that finishing the series was "more painful than getting divorced" and that she has finished writing about Harry:
It has been the worst break-up of my life - far worse than splitting up with any man.
But it has also been wonderful to stop and draw breath and think, 'My God, look what's happened with an idea I had 17 years ago on a train.'
I think I've definitely finished his story. I said seven books and there have been seven.

Wow, that would be pretty painful. It was a huge series, so it must have been pretty bad. I hope she knows she doesn't have to end it here, just keep on writing more :)

Well that's not really huge news. I mean, we've known for a long time that there was never really any chance of her doing more than 7 books. Still, so incredibly sad.

If she said she only doing seven then fine. It breaks my heart that there will be no more Harry Potter books to read, but I heard that she will write an encyclopedia saying what all of the characters are currently doing, and she is writing the detective novel which I will be sure to read!!!

Yes it's sad that there will be no more Harry, but i also think it's kind of good to stop write about him when she is on the top.

Well deserved award. Interesting comments in the interview. Too bad that she feels so much pain in regards to the book. I would have suggested she write another to help reduce that pain, maybe a reconcilation could be worked out.

GLAD/SAD
I have mixed feelings as well! I feel that it was one of the most difficult times in my life... having to finish the last book, and I still am sad about it! But, The movies keep me company... and I continue to read it again!

Congrats Jo! I'm still mourning and in this "Harry Potter depression." Some days are good and some are bad! It's nice to know the ending, but still missing the fact that there will be no more clues to a next book and the excitement of getting the book on midnight. Definitely going to miss that.

Severus' Advocate says:
Is she really writing a detective novel? It is sad that there will never be any more Harry Potter books but if JK Rowling keeps writing other stuff that will be great! She has said any future stuff written won't be as popular as Harry Potter but all the Harry Potter fans are bound to buy whatever she writes next anyway because the quality of her writing is excellent.

I'm sure she will write something else about Harry Potter. There is so much that all the fans want to know, she will have to put it all in some form of book to satify all of those who are still wondering about the world of Hogwarts.
Blessings! Hecate3fold!

I'm so sad that we will never hear from Harry again. I'll miss him, but I'm also happy because he is finally happy and living the life he derserves. I'll miss you Harry Potter.
