Last month we let you know that Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling was one of three nomineesopens in new window for this year's Morgan Stanley Great Briton 2007 awards.

Ms. Rowling wonopens in new window the arts category and was namedopens in new window the Morgan Stanley Overall Great Briton of 2007, with the judges saying, "Miss Rowling had transformed the world's view of Britain."

From the article:

A publishing phenomenon, JK Rowling has changed reading habits and patterns worldwide. The success of the Harry Potter books - the final novel in the series sold 11 million copies in its first 24 hours - has united a generation of children and parents in a genuine love of reading.

The Judges felt Miss Rowling had transformed the world's view of Britain and that her books are "brilliantly British." That she also managed to top the best-seller list in France with Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, the first English-language author to do so, is a further testament to her global appeal.

Rowling has left an indelible mark on the nation's literary history, which is why the judges insisted that she should receive double honours, winning the arts category and be named the Morgan Stanley Overall Great Briton of 2007.

Congratulations to Ms. Rowling.

"Brilliantly British"...I can but agree with every point the jury mentions. Another well-deserved award, and it should seem that she will receive a few more every year. I personally very grateful to her for all I've learnt in English thanks to her books. I hope she will publish more and try other genres.

Just think what she's also done for British tourism!

How many HP fans now want to visit Britain, go to Kings Cross Station, and go to the sites where they've filmed the movies? I know I do!!
