In an new interview
with Harry Potter producers David Barron and David Heyman both refuse to rule out the possibility of splitting seventh and final movie, The Deathly Hallows, into two films.
Mr. Barron states:
We are still discussing it. The announcement will be made hopefully in the not-too-distant future, with regards to the way seven shapes up.
The only negative of splitting the book into two films is that people could possibly perceive it as being one last chance at cashing in. But the real positive, if we were to do that, would be that we wouldn't have quite the battle we always have of 'How do you compress all that book into just over two hours of screen time?'
While Mr. Heyman says:
A couple of people have expressed interest, people have gotten a few calls and a few emails, but it's still a year away.
We won't start filming 'til February next year. So it hasn't really gone bananas yet. We've got thoughts, and I'm sure something will be announced in the not-too-distant future.
Also, during last nights BAFTA's event, actor Daniel Radcliffe dismissed
rumors that Steven Spielberg will direct the seventh movie:
I have no idea how that rumour started or where it came from. It's not true. How's that for a definitive answer?
It's absolute rubbish that Spielberg is directing the final film. It's not true. There's absolutely no foundation in that at all.
And says this about the currently filming of the film:
We're getting through it alright. I'm really enjoying it. We're about six months in and we've only got four more to go.

Funny I am ok with the idea of two movies for the final book. Maybe then we won't have to see so much cut from the book. I just wonder how long we will have to wait between the releases of each film or if they will be released together. I am totally up for a "Gone with the Wind" intermission form of the movie. Oh well, not my decision. I am glad to hear Spielberg directing is simply rumor rubbish. I figured it was rubbish.

I would love for it to be 2 movies.
In fact, they all should have been 2 movies, or at least a lot longer than they have been.

RON's all up in heRmiONe says:
You have no idea how happy this article makes me. The rumour on splitting DH is somewhat true, they are discussing it, and it's a good chance that Spielberg won't direct DH!! I know exactly where they could split the movie-either in the middle of one of the forest scenes, right after Ron comes back and saves Harry, or right after they leave the Lestranges vault, so the final battle scene could be the 2nd part of the movie. One of the scenes where they're stuck in a forest is the only possible place they can cut it. Any place else would cut into important scenes.
I personally don't think they're splitting DH for cash ONLY. Note the word, "only"...
A) If they don't split the movie, it might mean that fans won't wanna see if because they can't possibly fit the plot of DH into a 2 hour movie. Therefore, they would lose tons of money because fans won't like the movie if they forget loads of important stuff. So, they're guaranteed to make more money if the movie is split into 2 separate movies...2 movies, double the money One thing, in the movie theatre, would you pay for 2 tickets for yourself, or one?
B) Again, they can't fit everything into a 2 hour movie, Jo won't want anything missing, which would create strife between the producers and her on what to put it, where to put it, stuff like that
C) They probably want HP to go out with this big amazing bang-2 movies, everyone loves the movie, loads of money
D) They're probably hearing that lots of fans want it.
So, it could be for both reasons. I have no problem if they're just doing this for cash. As long as they make the movie long, make it good, LEAVE OUT NOTHING, and I'm satisfied with it.

As others here, I'd rather have one 5-hour long film than two separate instalments, but maybe the division can be considered-carefully considered, seeing as no such splitting appears in the book. Afer all if it means doing justice to the story for once, why not. As to the possibility of some mercantile manoeuvre behind that, it is certainly likely, but anyway the whole series of film is an attempt at cashing in.
As to Spielberg, I must say it leaves me rather indifferent, since I cannot conceive what a Potter film of his own would be like. Actually ge would have to shoot before we can say whether it was such a good idea after all.

I like the Idea of the movie being split into two parts. It will make it more in depth if you ask me. As for Spelberg, I though it would be interesting to see him direct it. I guess not...

This is the movie industry. Money is ALWAYS the issue. haha. But the idea of splitting up movie 7 is an interesting idea. I mean if splitting up into 2 means that they are going to stay VERY true to the story, then I don't think I would have much of a problem with it. However, like a few others, I'm worried about where they are going to split it. Coz the events happen one after another with one event seemingly triggering another event.
And what are they going to call it? Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 1 & 2??

Thats awesome. I'm still not sure how I stand on the deal of splitting the book in two, I guess only time will tell how I personaly feel about it. It does have some good positives, but some negatives as well.

Yolis, supposedly I just learned that he wanted to make the movie "American." And, some people got a bit "crazy" and obviously have not gotten over it.
Well, this might not be the reason, but when I read on another fan sites comment board, it was a discussion on that.
I think Spielberg is a great director and I was a bit surprised how many people were against it. Ah well. =)

It would have been nice if DH was spilt into two films ....cause...umm...they cannot show all the scenes in just 2-3 hours....
And all the scenes in DH are important one then they cant even cut the flim short,so they have no choice but to spilt the movie into two...
And now the director of the film...umm they should decide who is gonna be the director as fast as possible in my opinion..

Honestly, I wouldn't want Spielberg directing a Harry Potter movie. I think he would try to hard to impress the world and end up ruining the movie for the die hard fans out there, like us HPANA-ers. *nods*

At least Mr. Barron understands it!! I am really, really hoping for a split movie as there is no way that entire book and all storylines could be done justice in a 2-hour movie.

I'm for splitting Deathly Hallows into two movies. Upon first reading it, I remember thinking, how could they possibly adapt this into a movie. Making the two halves seperately would help to include most of the plots. As was said earlier, I don't know why they couldn't do the same for the Half-Blood Prince movie (and some of the previous ones, for that matter).
Too bad Spielberg isn't going to direct DH. I would have liked to have seen his perspective, and I've liked his previous movies.
