With filming currently ongoing for the Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince movie, producer David Barron has confirmed
that there will be a new scene added to the movie featuring the Burrow.
We don't often have things that aren't in the book.
But this was brought in because Jo (Rowling) was able throughout the quite lengthy book to keep dropping little snippets of what was happening in the outside world-there'd be people reading newspapers and talking about how somebody's parents had been killed or somebody had been withdrawn from school because their parents didn't think it was safe. And we're made aware that the Muggle world is also experiencing these disasters, but thinks they are disasters rather than the work of Voldemort.
The book is peppered with those moments, but we couldn't do that quite so easily in the film. So (the extra scene) comes in the middle of the film and it just reminds us the world is no longer a safe place. Even in what would normally be considered the safe haven of the Burrow, nobody's safe. I think you'll like it. It's quite effective.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince will be released in November 2008.

Hey, that sounds good to me, in GOF and POA they had more added scenes than original it seemed so I think OOTP and HBP keeping it to a minimal is best.

I have heard about this scene and I think a lot of it is a wasted effort, especially if what I heard happens to the Burrow does in fact happen. If not, great, at least it keeps the threat level up. And I'm going to assume Rowling was alright with this addition.
Also, all I have to say is if they are adding scenes, then this better be longer than 2 hours and a couple minutes - this better be at least 2.5 hours because I will not stand for a short movie like OotP was when there is so much to get across and the producers complain about having too much in the books when they're perfectly okay with adding things. So yeah, the movie better account for the addition by being a little longer. I don't want to hear of what scenes had to go in place of this new one.

Very interesting approach to the film on this point. I had wondered if thye would just simply cut them all out. Not a bad way to get the point across.

Very interesting. But I wonder what scenes they took out so that this one could go in. Still, I can't wait to see this film and I'm looking forward to it's finish. Now if we could just have some new pictures.

I hope it isn't changed too much, book 6 was really good. I liked all of the little extra things inside of it, but if Jo's behind it then it should be just fine.

AHHHHHHHH This is my favorite part, when they start having scene previews!!!! I am so excited. I think that I agree with hermionefan1 though... as long as it is approved by JKR, I mean it really should pass her standards.

Uh... Good idea of theirs, but I am a bit uneasy about how they will carry it out. I supposed I can trust them not to do something totally random like have Voldemort set the Burrow on fire!

Yeah, I always get a little annoyed when I see things going into the films that aren't in the books at the expense (probably) of other things in the books that there otherwise might have been time for. But, it does seem like this is just a convention they're using to illustrate something from HBP that they wouldn't be able to convey in the same way as the book...so it'll probably be all right. I sort of don't mind a little extra time at the Burrow either, but I reserve full judgement until I see the extra scene for myself!

I think it's a good idea, and if they've asked JKR it'll be fine, but I do wonder what the scene will involve? I can't WAIT for HBP!!!!!!

I think its great adding scenes if it helps the story flow from book to movie a little bit better, and if JKR approved it it's gotta be good! I'm so ready for HBP!!!!! YAY!

That's not true at all!
Look at the Order of the Phoenix. They had half of the school in Umbridge's Office doing lines with those cutting quills.

*SPOILER FOR THE NEXT MOVIE POSSIBLY* POSSIBLE DETAILS FROM NEXT MOVIE IN THIS COMMENT...from what I read online.
This is true? The script was leaked online about 2 weeks ago, I read it and it had this scene in it. The script sounded so damn fake, like someone fooled all of us and made it up!! Hermione calls Mr. Weasley "Arthur"-why would she do that? The scene is where this big fight scene happens and the Burrow get's completely destroyed by some Death Eaters. The Weasleys, Harry, Hermione and I think some aurors(and death eaters) are all doing the fighting. The script had to be real, because that specific scene was in the script, before this news came out, but it sounded like a 15 year old without any writing experience wrote it.
I don't like this at all. I mean, I always thought of the Burrow as a safe place to be, but now, they're going to destroy it. I guess what you think isn't always what it seems. I guess that added scene would be really cool, but like people have said here, they should stick to the book. I never liked added scenes(except for Ron/Hermione ones). I still think this movie's going to be amazing. Yates did a great job on the last one, I'm sure he'll do the same here.

Hmm, could be good, or very bad. It is a very long book, and I'm worried about what they cut out to include this. Of course final editing is no where near complete, so it is possible that they might not include it in the end.

Rococoed says:
I suppose I can understand why Warner Brothers decided to include this scene. While I have been less than enthralled by other news we have received about this adaptation, especially on the omission of the Gaunts, I think the inclusion of this scene is justifiable. In a film, it just wouldn’t work to interrupt every other scene to emphasize that Voldemort’s reign of terror is becoming more and more potent. Including a single scene on this point would help far more solve this problem.
However, if this scene turns out to be the same one that everyone is expessing anxiety about, the one that takes place at the Burrow and leaves it ablaze, I am afraid that this movie is going to disappoint the fans far more than any other.

Well it's not the first time new scenes have been added to the movies, but this one sounds like it should turn out okay. In the book, we do learn about these supposed disasters through descriptions. It sounds like the big difference is we'll be seeing them occur. Of course, the films don't often meet up to fans' standards, but you can't compare the movies to the books.

I agree with MWbashfulAR. The script was leaked and I think plenty of us know what scene they're now talking about.
I personally think it's a waste of film and I can't believe J.K. okayed this. I mean, can't you just leave the book the way it is without adding such scenes in?
I just think it would be better without the scene... if it's the one we're all thinking about.
