The Los Angeles Times just broke the long-rumored news
that "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" will be split into two films, directed by David Yates from a script by Steve Kloves.
The report cites producer David Heyman and says the official announcement will be made tomorrow by Warner Bros. The films, simply titled "Part One" and "Part Two," will be released in November 2010 and May 2011 respectively.
Earlier today, SnitchSeeker posted an account
from a fan who said actor Matthew Lewis (Neville Longbottom) confirmed this news at Collectormania.
[Note: While visiting the set of 'Half-Blood Prince' in January, this editor had a strong feeling these decisions had already been made, although reps and stars alike were quite coy during interviews. You may remember HPANA posted these unconfirmed suspicions but was asked by Warner Bros. to remove the article.]

NO NO NO NO NO
That is BAD news, what a revenue pusher!
Does anyone realise how depressing and incomplete that first movie will be!?
If they can make book 5 into 1 film, they sure as hell can do it to book 7! >=[[[[

Oh this is so stupid, they're only doing it for the money that's all they care about.
Besides Deathly Hallows is shorter than Half-Blood Prince and Order of the Phoenix and Goblet of Fire and were any of them split into two?
No. They're just doing it because they've got nothing else to do and also because of the publicity on Harry Potter is quite GIGANTIC.
It might be worse and they might ruin it by milking it for so long.

Wow. This would be ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT! They could really take care of the plot of the final film and get all of the nitty gritty parts in! And I could probably visit the UK by then to see the film premier in the UK! :O
Stretch it out an extra year JUST FOR US WB! :D

Woo-hoo!!! At last there is a chance of the movies actually doing justice to the book. That's a big reason to celebrate.

I am very very not happy that they are making two movies, and especially that they are keeping David Yates as the director.
Kinda makes me want to give up on the whole harry potter universe.
There were 7 books, so there should be 7 films. They are not kids films anymore. We are all older now and we can sit through a 3 hour movie. LOTR was 3 x 3hr movies and I don't remember anyone complaining about the length of those films.

I'd rather not have Yates Direct, but it's good news that there will finally be two films. I hope each one is at least four hours long.

I really hoped that they wouldn't do this! I think it will spoil HP. There are seven books so there should be seven] films. They are probably only doing it to make themselves more money but they'll probably try to cover that up by saying they can cover more of the content of the book that way.
This is the most stupid idea they've had with regards to HP. I want to know what Rowling thinks about it!

hmmmmmmm i have very mixed feelings about this!!!!
I mean its good that they wont have to cut it all out but its not good because we have to wait 6months for each installment and it seems like they are only doing it for more publicity and money!!!!!!!
It should still be really good though!!!!! an hopefully they will do it justice and it will be really good!!!!

I dunno what to say...two movies? We'll have to wait one more year before we can see the end of the first movie? I'm not sure I like that idea...but in the same time I'm quite happy that they decide to make two parts. The movie will be much more like the book being like 4-6hours instead of only 2 or 3! Yep, really dunno what to think. Anyway, I don't really have my word in that decision do I? Just hope the second part will worth the 1 year waiting!

I can't believe it! I wasn't sure how I felt about splitting the final film into two movies but now that it's true, I'm happy about it! This will give them the chance to keep everything in and not have to cut anything out and it gives us fans two more movies to look forward to! I'm so happy because we still have three more years of Harry Potter, until 2011, until it's all over and I want to keep Harry around for as long as possible!

Wow.
It says script from Steve Kloves.
I believe that he was the writer (Film) for Harry Potter and The Philosopher's Stone.
I could be wrong. Hahaha.
But, at any rate,
This should be so awesome to watch!
I am speechless.
I wish that Chris Columbus would direct this movie though.
Because he did very well with the first two movies.

I can't believe how many people are happy about this, it's disgusting. Deathly Hallows in no way needed to be two films (not to mention the fact that I HATED it anyway), while all the other longer ones *cough* OOTP *cough* got cut down to nothing, while they added all their own crap in. I'm so SICK of this.
I'm done with the Harry Potter movies! They were never as good as the books anyone, they suck at casting, the books are done anyway. I'm not going to see anymore HP movies or buying any more of WB's HP merchandise. I'll support JK Rowling in whatever she does in the future, but this is something I cannot support.

Of all the rumors I've heard surrounding the movies, this would have been the last one I'd guess to be true. I actually like the idea of the two seperate movies, simply because more details and plots can be included from the DH book.
I'm happy to hear David Yates returning to direct, but even happier that Steven Kloves will be doing the screenplay--I've especially liked his adaptions.
