Variety has announced
that ABC Family has recently made a deal with Warner Brothers for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. ABC Family now owns the rights to show all six existing films on their television network:
[Senior VP of program acquisitions and scheduling Tom] Zappala said he'll work with Ken Werner, president of Warner Bros. Domestic TV Distribution, to help launch the theatrical release of Half Blood Prince in July by running a marathon of the first four Harry Potter films. These cross-promotion strategies often draw more people into the multiplexes at the same time as they’re adding to the Nielsen ratings of the older titles on the network.

Great to know that the films will be accessible on standard broadcast to others in due course. Of course it is always better to see it in the theatre or on the DVD.

Oh well I guess it's good if there's nothing else on telly :D
And also I like the marathons they have, even though I've already got them on dvd.
But still. Pretty awesome :)
Wow. Never been this early to comment before :)

That doesn't surprise me, they already have the first four movies, it's only fitting they get Order of the Phoenix and Half Blood Prince too.

Wow, that's cool! But how can they have HBP if we don't even have it yet? That part sorta confuses me...I can't wait to see OotP on ABC though. I love how they always have the extra scenes in it.

Not really surprising. They got the other movies as well, so I always expected them to get OotP and HBP as well.

Only makes sense, ABC family has been showing the movies a lot lately. They seem to have a marathon like twice a year. I'm cool with that desision.:)

That's not at all surprising. Pretty much predictable that they would get the rights for all the HP movies.
My little brother will love watching them on the TV as much as he does the others even if we have all on dvd too.

It won't make any difference. I still will NOT go see the film when it is released.
Funny that Walt Disney Productions is getting their finger in the Potter pie too. Disney owns ABC. And the wheels go round and round. I wonder who else is going to get their cut before the Potter phenomina all over? If it ever will be.
On a side note. Maybe WB is a little scared, if they're looking for more support to launch the HBP. Oh, I hope they get hit where it hurt them the most for moving the opening date.
Blessings! Hecate3fold!

Hmm, I'm not in America, but I do find it funny the difference between watching a dvd and the film being on tv, it's more trivial for some reason.

Brilliant...This means you would have to tune to channel ABC to see all six Harry Potter movies. ABC could afford it, because the owners are Disney World Corporation.

I will so NOT go to the opening weekend of HBP!! I hope there are still enough people out there who are still as mad at WB as I am!
I dont care if they do 10 marathons before the film comes out.
