Update: More reviews of the performance are trickling online, you can read Time's
review, as well as co-star Anna Camp's reaction to Daniel Radcliffe's performance.
“He carries the show, and he’s Harry Potter, so everybody’s so focused on him and waiting for him to take his clothes off. But it’s really about my character being the one in control and guiding him through the entire thing. It’s so important to the story that we do take our clothes off, because it’s about confronting him with complete sexuality, and that’s how the last event of the play can occur, only if he’s truly, truly confronted.”
Glenn Close, Kathleen Turner, and Dominic Cooper were among the many stars who gave Daniel Radcliffe a standing ovation after the Broadway Premiere of 'Equus' at the Broadhurst Theatre in New York City last night.
The 19-year-old admitted he had been "terrified" before Thursday's opening night and that he had yet to read any reviews of his performance.
Actor Richard Griffiths said his young co-star had taken "big strides" since the play's London premiere last year. "He's not a kid anymore," said the Tony award-winner. "He's a young man and he deserves whatever breaks that brings."
In other 'Equus' related news, The New York Times has an extensive review of the opening night performance, and gave praise to the work of Daniel Radcliffe, and Richard Griffiths.
The young wizard has chosen wisely. Making his Broadway debut in Thea Sharrock’s oddly arid revival of Peter Shaffer’s “Equus,” which opened Thursday night at the Broadhurst Theater, the 19-year-old film star Daniel Radcliffe steps into a mothball-preserved, off-the-rack part and wears it like a tailor’s delight — that is, a natural fit that allows room to stretch. Would that the production around him, first presented in London, showed off Mr. Shaffer’s 1973 psychodrama as flatteringly as it does its stage-virgin star."

Good job Dan! From Harry Potter, Daniel Radcliffe has certainly evolved as an actor, and while his acting was never bad in the films, it keeps getting better. I'm glad he's now leaning towards a successful career in acting, and theater.

WickedLoz, that's not true, some Americans have been very cruel with him, but he is doing such a superb performance they all have had to shup up.
Also, Daniel got rave reviews in London too, he totally deserves it. I think some people don't know how much.

I'm very happy and excited for Daniel.
If David Yates' direction is good in the last movie and Steve Kloves give Harry some good lines (something he hasn't never done in all these movies!) we could see such a wonderful performance.
But they have to give him good material, instead of taking some of the best book scenes away from him, like the OotP final ones. After seeing Equus I'm sure he would have done such a superb job with those scenes... it's a pity they cut so many stuff.

After Harry Potter is all said and done Dan will still be around. I don't see him fading away at all. Most of the other Harry Potter cast members will though.

Ainhoa says:
Arika, maybe you should explain them what this play is really about. If they only know what they have heard on tv or read on tabloids, I'm sure they have a wrong impression of what it is about.
Tell them this: it's like a CSI episode, but it's not about finding who commited the crime, it's about finding out why he did it.
All the acting is great, specially Dan and Richard. And there are actors/darcers who play the horses, they are amazing. It's like seeing real horses, they have studied their movements and it's something so beautiful to see, no-one should miss it.
When the nudity comes you are so much into the play and what it's happening you don't even notice they have no clothes, you are just mesmerized with the great choreographies, the lighting, sound and Dan's brilliant acting. Plus, Dan and the girl have very beautiful bodies so it's nice to look at them, not disturbing or anything.
It's a very theatrical play (simple set, the horse marks, the way they go to the past and return to the present...) and nowadays there are not many theatrical plays, it's like if the magic of real theatre has being lost. But with this play you can see it, the way they change from a scene to the next one is really ingeniuos and interesting to see.
There is humor in the play too, they'll have quite a good laughts! And it makes people think, asks themselves questions, which again is not something many plays manage to do nowadays.
So really, I don't see why someone wouldn't want to see it, it has everything, good acting, good material, interesting subjects, humor, arger, sadness, spectacular sound and lighting, the nudity is done with a lot of taste, the curios set, a Tony award winner and a future one, a Star Trek star, a group of amazing (and hot!) dancers with incredible horse heads and hoofs, the unique possibility to see it seating on the stage...

That is some well-earned praise directed towards Dan. I think that NOW can we all agree that he can act?! I was getting very tired of people saying that he can only do Harry Potter - and that's it. Now this proves that he has cracked Broadway, so all the naysayers can GET LOST!
