Emma Thompson will not return for 'Deathly Hallows' Popular (4950)

Emma Thompson has announcedopens in new window that she will not return to reprise her role as divination professor Sybill Trelawney for the two-part Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows movies:

The Harry Potters are great big franchises that are something I’m not emotionally attached to or necessarily particularly creatively attached to. That’s more like doing a turn, whereas the Nanny McPhees are something I’ve written. The art is in those films, they’re very handmade, they’re something that’s very close to me. Those are the ones I really care about.

Well fine, sheesh.
She didn't have to be so plain about it, I like Emma Thompson she's very good as Trelawney and I see how it mustn't give her a lot of artistic creativity by doing HP (which is weird since Trelawney is a very creative character) but still.
I hope they don't cast someone else, that'll suck so bad if they do.
Yeah and because "Nanny McPhee" is so much better than HP. Whatever, what is she going to do now?
What is she going to write or produce or act that is SO much better than HP.

Huh.

This is such a shame because I liked Emma as an actor and a person, but if she's going to be this pompous, then forget it. Nanny McPhee was not a good movie at all. How can she say that Rowling's works are manufactured? I get really tired of these people who reject things because they are well-known or popular. Nanny McPhee was unpopular because it was quite terrible. It's like the the pseudo-gothic kids (no disrespect, I know there are people out there who are into goth for the right reasons and you're all awesome) in high school who said they dressed the way they did because it was "unique," yet they all wore the same thing and rejected friends who were too "normal"-just a black and red version of the preppy clicks. There is a big difference between doing something because you like it and doing something to blantantly inform others of your self-importance.

I really can't believe how much of a jerk she is being! She can't come back for the last film!? Even if she's not "attached" to the HP films, she could at least have the courtesy to come back for the fans.

What? Why not! I love Emma Thompson! I'm really sad that she's not returning, but I guess she has other things going on.

Good for her. I'm glad she's doing something she feels attached to. This franchise is just getting out of hand.

I think people are being a little unforgiving here...as JKR constantly reminds us, the media loves to take words out of context or twist them to make them more sensational. I really doubt that she meant to be rude or condescending...but rather to be honest and straightforward about her decision not to return. And honestly, who can blame her? I'm not necessarily happy with WB right now either...this next film looks good, but I think it will be the least true to the book by far.

Ta! So if she doesn't write it, it's crap? Of course she doesn't mind the big fat check she got for playing that part. I see how it is. *spits with tongue out* J.K. is just creative as she is. And it shows, considering how popular the story is. That doesn't mean its bad. Geez, someone has their head stuck up their butt a little too far.

Please, please, please stop accusing Emma Thompson of insulting J.K. Rowling or the Harry Potter books. She said the movies were manufactured, not the books. And the movies are manufactured. Remember how Warner Bros moved the release of HBP back eight months not for artistic or creative reasons, but just to get more money? Remember how much we all hate Warner Bros? She didn't say that JKR or the HP books weren't creative, just that her very miniscule role in the movies didn't allow her much creativity. She isn't being conceited or arrogant. Please, please, please stop misreading what she said.

They'll probably cut her character in the final film in that case. Complete opposite to someone like Jason Isaacs who was 'pleading' was JKR to let him have one final appearance in the last books so he could wear his blond wig a final time.

I find these statements from Emma Thompson rather interesting. I wonder if we are reading more into her comments as being callus towards Harry Potter or just her way of blowing off that her character wasn't included in that last two movies. None the less, she is terrific actress and it is sad she will not be included in the last teo films...but it is what it is.

Don't start something that you can not finish!

I have mixed feeling about this. one one hand it's just one more movie, on the other hand if she's not into it, we don't want her to give a half hearted job on the movie. But I can see her losing some of her young fans.
