Residents of the U.S. and Canada have a chance to win the collector's edition of The Tales of the Beedle the Bard by J.K. Rowling courtesy of online book retailer AbeBooks.com. Also included as the prize is a copy of the Sotheby’s auction catalog for the hand-written book from December 2007.
You must be between the ages of 13 to 20 in the U.S., and between 13 to 18 if you live in Canada to enter the contest, which ends on January 20, 2009 at 9:59am PDT. To enter
the contest you must answer a question:
The seven hand-written editions of The Tales of Beedle the Bard feature moonstones mounted into their covers. Which 19th century author wrote a novel called The Moonstone that was published in 1868?

Although the world of Harry Potter is rich and vibrant, I am starting to feel a sort of emptiness from the franchise. The delays of the movies have cause me to reconsider investing in this "world". I am still going to see the movie (just to see how close it is to the books) but with no future books announced that include a boy or man (whichever you prefer) named Harry Potter I find myself not looking for another fan made fiction book online and just wait for what else Mrs. Rowling has up her sleeves.
Her writing is captivating to say the least and it rekindled my love for writing that I have neglected. The Tales of Beetle the Bard is just one of the many things she could tap into in the vast world of Harry Potter. I would love to see a story wherein we find a Muggle who constantly stumbles upon the wizarding world only to be constantly forced to forget about it (short term memory problems or whatever way the muggle is forced to forget). That would be quite entertaining to read (maybe as just a short story). But the likeliness of me reading such a story from Mrs. Rowling seems feasible I find that if I want to read such a story I should just write it myself.(Unless of course the story is in the Tales of Beedle the Bard)

I don't think that she is going to write much more, much less what her fans want. She's pretty much set after the seven books were released.

Wow that's great! I got my own copy of the collector's edition. And the last time I checked at amazon, its already out of stock! I really think its a good decision for me to pre-order the book.
I do want to enter the contest though, its just sad that only selected people can join. I hope there will be a contest for HP fans who lives here at South East Asian region.

I would like to purchase a copy of the Collector's Editions of The Tales of Beedle the Bard at some point. Unfortunately I can't afford to at the moment, but I may look into it in the near future. It's a shame I'm too old.
If anybody is wondering why it is that the age limit is lower in Canada it is because in many of our provinces in our legal age is 19 rather than 21...

Already got mine for Christmas. If you've not though, well worth entering, or saving up to buy one - it is superb quality, and for charity :D.

My 2-month old daughter got me a copy of the collector's edition for Christmas. She's such a sweetie. :-) I'm too old for the contest anyway.
I'm surprised at how easy the contest is, though. A Google search for "moonstone 1868" gets you the answer on the first hit. Back in the days of card catalogs, that would have been a real challenge.

I disagree that JKR won't write anymore. I think she has plans, even though we don't know about them yet. I am willing to wait and see.

I would just like to rant about the fact that people living in Quebec (even though we ARE Canadians) aren't allowed to enter the contest. It just seems totally unfair to me. :(

As a lucky owner of the collector's edition (I got mine from Amazon UK even though I am in the States), I can't say enough about the awesome quality of the collector's edition. I was totally surprised with the thought and work that went into its design and quality of the finished product. It is a beautiful item and a treasured addition to my HP collection. I recommend anyone eligible for the contest to enter. You won't be sorry! Good luck!
