Jenna from DanRadcliffe.com has received an update from the studio
about casting applications for Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire which is currently in pre-production with filming to begin in April 2004.
As we all know, in the past, all of the actors and actresses, both principal roles and extras, have been cast from within the UK. Many people have been sending us inquiries about being cast as an extra in HPGOF.
Unfortunately, I am very sorry to disappoint all of the international fans who had hoped to be part of the Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire cast, but casting for the new HP installment will continue to follow the same path as its predecessors.

As it should be! HP is a British franchise and it should be a film which highlights the talents of British actors! All the accents are real, the characteristic and linguistic nuances are real. I could not imagine viewing an HP film full of people with learned accents! It would be like watching Nicolas Cage trying an Italien accent (and that movie was terrible!). I love HP too much to see it go donw that path!

I agree - the books are set in Britain, therefore the cast should be British. However, I do hope they find native actors for Fleur and Viktor. Maybe they could have some walk-on roles for the Quidditch World Cup, since that is an international event.

In keeping the casting British, the films are staying true to the books. However, nonspeaking parts could be filled by anyone. After all, Harry is truly an international obsession.

I agree with you! Keeping the cast British is a good idea, but maybe some nonspeaking parts can go out to anyone!

I think it is important for them to be as consistent as possible througout the films. Though a disappointment for some, I think this is well worth the quality of the final product.

I think that keeping the cast an all British one is a good idea..now some of you might find that odd..because I am an American and I would love more than anything to be in a Harry Potter movie...but I think its more authentic if they just stick with the Brits!

I think that's the way it should be because JK is from the UK and they're her books and she should get to decide who gets to act in them. Like Choralee said, its a British Franchise.

Awww. I think they should look for international actors. I am just stating the facts, I don't necesaraly agree with this, but England has a reputation of putting out crappy movies. Some people don't like the HP movies, because they are British. Maybe some more famous actors from other countries would bring in more $$$ in the box offices. Just a comment!

It should be British, by all means! I am an American (though some people tell me I sound British for some odd reason) and I don't see why other people in my country shouldn't accept that these films be made as authentically as possible.

I'm not British and I can understand what they are doing I mean it's good to keep it within the UK good for the country and its a patritic thing to do.. it's a pity for us but well. I can't imagine someone not having the british accent in the films.

I think that the speaking parts should go to the British(with the exception of Fleur and Krum) because that is where the books were founded. As far as extra roles go, I say that JK should make it a charity event. If you want to be an extra, you have to buy the part. That means the plane ticket as well for anyone outside the UK. Isn't she already trying that?

I'm glad that there keeping it a all British cast. The whole movie is based in London and around there, and it wouldn't make sense to have an American there.

I was hoping they would cast people from the appropriate countries for the characters JKR says are from other countries, just because it would seem more authentic, but I guess that's why they call it "acting", they can act like foreigners. I am all for keeping the cast from the UK, that is the main setting of the story. Just think how awful the movies would have been if they had hired the other director that wanted to use American actors and change the setting...yuck!

Cool. I think it is good they are keeping it British, even though i am an American that wished to be an extra. I knew it would never happen. But i am glad they are keeping it British. No offence to the American's who sent it audition tapes and what not, but i am glad. Good job.

If you live in America or Canada or somewhere far how would you play the roles? fly there? But that would cost to much so you wouldn't actually make money.

I agree - the books are set in Britain, therefore the cast should be British. I mean who would be stupid enough to send people from other countries to play extras, its a waste of time and money. I wouldn't, would you?

O shute - I live in the Netherlands but I am British.
Too bad.
However I agree with the previous comments, however sad it may be, it is probably for the best.
Americans you will get your chance in other great productions - Artemis Fowl will be a film and so is the Unfortunate Events.
Maybe even the books by Pullman -> plenty of oppurtunity to become an extra. Not Harry Potter, but still plenty of fun.

I think the non-speaking roles - like the visitors at the Quidditch World Cup - could be international but remembering how long it takes to do such scenes you must have a 3-month-holiday.
As long as they keep the main parts British I'm not concerned. I'd really like to know who is going to play Mad-Eye Moody, I have some actors in mind but I guess they are too expensive.

Thats great to hear and it is fantastic that so many British children are getting such a great opportunity as well.
It was one of the stipulations that JKR made that the cast be English before she signed the rights to the books over.
As I have said before and many others, plenty of films requiring children are made in the USA all the time, whereas this would be a once in a lifetime chance for some of these children.
