Warner Brothers has announced their plans to release the first ever official "Harry Potter" application for iPhone and iPod Touch. The app is entitled "Harry Potter: Spells" and enables the user to cast spells right from their iPod. The application has a scheduled release date of November 16.

Following the report that "Harry Potter" extended editions were expected to be released on DVD and Blu-Ray, we can now confirm that this is indeed the case, with all eight films set to be released as "Ultimate Editions," and "Sorcerer's Stone" and "Chamber of Secrets" set for a release date of December 8.

The recent MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) film ratings bulletin included the news that "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone: Extended Edition" had received a PG rating. In a follow-up to this news, Warner Brothers has confirmed that all "Harry Potter" films shall receive a special, extended edition DVD/Blu-Ray release.

Update: Opening day tally for 'HBP' is $104 million  Comments (44)
Upon opening Wednesday, "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" raked in $58.18 million in the U.S. ($22.2 million at midnight) and another $45.85 million internationally, for a one-day grand total of $104 million, plus a couple of new records.

To get the buzz for "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" up even more, Warner Bros. has announced new downloads for "Potter" fans using the Firefox web browser. The downloads include new Harry Potter skins and backgrounds as well as a free app from the iTunes Store for iPhone users.

In a recent interview David Heyman spoke more about the delay of the "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" movie. He has confirmed that the film is complete, save one small change they will be making, and that to prevent the threat of leaking, they have yet to put the whole film together fully. Update: There is another interview with David Thewlis online, in which he talks "Deathly Hallows."

ABC Family secures rights to 'OotP' & 'HBP'  Comments (30)
Variety has announced that ABC Family has recently made a deal with Warner Brothers for 'Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" and "Half-Blood Prince." ABC Family now owns the rights to show all six existing films on their television network.

It would appear Warner Bros. is getting close to launching an updated HarryPotter.com (their official site) for "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince." Right now, it's just a placeholder that links to the teaser trailer and plays lovely music from "Sorcerer's Stone" in the background.

Warner Home Video's "Harry Potter: Years 1-5 Limited Edition Gift Set" won an award at the 65th Annual National Paperboard Packaging Competition. The winning packaging featured a round-cornered trunk and custom-made antiqued hinges and hardware fasteners made to match those seen on the trunk from the films.

During today's court proceedings in New York between RDR Books and Warner Bros. and "Harry Potter" author J.K. Rowling, the judge once again urged a settlement amongst the parties involved. Judge Robert P. Patterson stated that "...this case, with imagination, could be settled." Update: Following today's event author J.K. Rowling has issued a new statement.

To add to our previous post on the court case currently taking place in New York between "Harry Potter" author J.K. Rowling, Warner Bros. and RDR Books, comes news that the author of the book in question told the court that "he was talked into doing it by the publishing company" and that "It's been difficult because there has been a lot of criticism, obviously, and that was never the intention."

The Los Angeles Times just broke the long-rumored news that "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" will be split into two films, directed by David Yates from a script by Steve Kloves. The report cites producer David Heyman and says the official announcement will be made tomorrow by Warner Bros. The films, simply titled "Part One" and "Part Two," will be released in November 2010 and May 2011 respectively.

'Wyrd' group still battling over fictional 'Potter' band's name  Comments (83)
Winnipeg, Canada folk music group Wyrd Sisters are continuing their two-year-old battle with Warner Bros. over the similarly named band in "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire," even though the group failed to halt the 2005 film's release and Warner Bros. removed all mention of it from the movie. The band is now demanding that all remaining DVDs, video games and other merchandise that reference The Weird Sisters be destroyed.
