'Beedle the Bard'
'Beedle' preparations; 8 million copies to be released worldwide
With just a few hours left until the much anticipated release of "Tales of Beedle the Bard," the preparations for this release are in motion. Including the news that eight million copies of the novel are to be released worldwide.

Update: 'Deathly Hallows' breaks records; 'OotP' drops a notch
As expected the release of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" broke records this weekend with Scholastic reporting that 8.3 million copies were sold in the first 24 hours in the U.S., while UK publisher Bloomsbury reports that they sold 2.6 million copies in the same time period. The fifth movie "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" fell a notch to the number 2 spot in weekend sales. Update: Over 72 million copies of the book were sold worldwide this past weekend.

Fans dismayed with early reviews of 'Deathly Hallows'
To the dismay of many fans the "New York Times" has released a review of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows." The review appeared on their web site late last night and the author of the review pointed out that the newspaper bought the book at a local New York store. Update: Sad to say, but additional outlets have also published their reviews of the book online.

UK adult cover of 'HPDH'
Watch 2 live web events with JKR to celebrate release of HP7
With the release of the seventh and last book in the "Harry Potter" series just days away Bloomsbury, the UK publisher of the books, have announced on their web site that JK Rowling will participate in 2 live web events, the first on Saturday 21st, July 2007 at 12.01am (BST) and the second, a web chat on Monday, July 31st at 2 - 3 pm (BST).

UK adult 'HPDH'
Selling 'Deathly Hallows' doesn't mean making a profit
An interesting article about the publication of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" analyzes the ramifications of low prices and how they affect booksellers in the UK. It mentions that regardless of how much the publishers, Bloomsbury, sells the books, outlets compete against each other to offer the best prices for fans and state that while they will not be making a large profit, lower prices leads to foot traffic and the hope that those people will buy other items in the stores.

U.S. 'Deathly Hallows' cover
Cover art for 'Deathly Hallows' revealed
Earlier this morning the cover art for "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" was revealed on the 'Today Show.' Both Bloomsbury and Scholastic web sites have been updated with the art. The U.S. verison of the book will have 784 pages.

Voldemort reigns supreme
Well at least in the BigBadRead poll. JK Rowling's creation, Lord Voldemort from the "Harry Potter" novels, was voted as the favorite literary villain of all time by British schoolchildren.

The man who discovered 'Potter' gives his reasons
Recently Barry Cunningham, the publisher of the "Chicken House" children's books and the founding publisher of Bloomsbury Children's Books in the UK was asked about what guided his decision-making in choosing the "Harry Potter" series and stated: "I choose books purely based on what I believe children will react to. If you carry the child within you, that's what works."

Publisher: Book 7 'likely' in 2007
Bloomsbury publishing director Liz Calder said the next and final "Harry Potter" book is "likely" to be released in 2007... she hopes. At the British Council's Creative Future conference in India this week, Calder allegedly said as much in an interview with Indo-Asian News Service.

Bloomsbury gets Wilde, buys classic works publisher
Harry Potter publisher Bloomsbury (UK) has bought Metheun Drama Ltd. for $4.4 million, the company said today. The purchase adds to Bloomsbury the works of famous playwrights Oscar Wilde, David Mamet and others. This announcement is in line with company chairman Nigel Newton's comments just a month ago about impending acquisitions Bloomsbury intends to make, in part to maintain long-term success after the end of the Potter saga.

The success of Harry Potter has made British publisher Bloomsbury the most cash-rich in its industry, writes The Guardian's Matt Seaton in an in-depth company analysis. With more than £50 million in its Gringott's vault, Bloomsbury is spending heavily to nab high-profile books from under the noses of competitors, in an effort to ensure that Potter's demise isn't also the end of their golden years.

'Half-Blood Prince' in UK paperback June 2006
Bloomsbury has announced that "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" will be published in paperback in the UK on Friday, June 23, 2006. The company's web site notes that the date is "subject to change" but that it will feature "two jackets, one for children and one for the adult market."

Fry, Rowling BBC4 radio interview press release
Leading up to the upcoming interview with J.K. Rowling and Stephen Fry, Bloomsbury (the UK publisher) has released a press release about "Living With Harry," a segment to be featured on on BBC Radio 4. In addition to mentioning the seventh "Harry Potter" book, Rowling talks about her favorite author and Fry talks about how he performs the voices of the characters.

'Half-Blood Prince' audio book news
According to Bloomsbury the British audio version of "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" will be released on August 25th. The audio books will now "be co-published by Helen Nicoll and Bloomsbury Publishing Plc bringing the book, the cassettes and the CDs under one roof for the first time." Also Bloomsbury.com has been redesigned for a brand new look.

Scholastic's book 6 cover
'Half-Blood Prince' book jackets revealed
The British and American publishers of "Harry Potter" have posted the jacket covers for "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince." The children's versions by Jason Cockcroft, shows Harry and Dumbledore in rings of fire and the adult version is from a photograph by Michael Wildsmith showing a tattered "Advanced Potion-Making" book. The American version shows Harry and Dumbledore looking into what seems to be a pensive.

New downloadable 'Half-Blood Prince' poster
Following on the heels of Scholastic, Bloomsbury has released their downloadable version of a poster for "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince." The poster also has a red nose on March 8th to indicate Rupert Grint’s involvement in Red Nose Day.

Greenpeace request
'Harry Potter' and the ancient forest friendly paper
Earlier this week Greenpeace created a petition for fans of the "Harry Potter" series to ask Bloomsbury, the UK publisher, to print the next book, "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," on 100 percent ancient forest friendly paper.

Paperback 'Phoenix' coming in July, August 2004
Bloomsbury announced today it is releasing a paperback version of "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" on July 10. The company will release both an adult and children's edition, priced at £7.99, and "will be backed by a major advertising campaign." Scholastic will follow with the American version on August 10, priced at $9.99.

Bloomsbury has recently announced a release of new jacket covers for four of the current Harry Potter books in the series. One is a special edition of "Prisoner of Azkaban".

'Phoenix' boosts Bloomsbury
Bloomsbury's financial state received quite a large bounty from sales of "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix," releasing figures that show a 2 percent gain in net income, which certainly mean much profit in all quarters of the British publisher.
