J.K. Rowling has topped Forbes list of highest paid authors, making an astounding $300 million in the last year, and a whole $450 million more than the second place author, James Patterson. This marking another milestone in the life of J.K. Rowling and "Harry Potter."

College starts 'Battling Against Voldemort' course
MTV has a new video report focusing on a college course called "Battling Against Voldemort." The course, at Swarthmore College, is made to teach students to read the books from a new perspective. It has become so popular that they developed a lottery system to determine who gets into the course.

Update: 'Lexicon' decision may be appealed
Roger Rapoport of Michigan-based RDR Books said he expects attorneys will file an appeal to preserve their right to continue battling a lawsuit from JK Rowling and Warner Bros. preventing them from publishing an unofficial "Harry Potter" lexicon, according to the Detroit Free Press. UPDATE: HP Prognosticators has posted an exclusive interview with Steve Vander Ark on their podcast.

Update: Judge rules for Rowling in 'Lexicon' book case; all parties issue statements
The "Harry Potter Lexicon" book must halt publication, a U.S. judge ordered today, ruling in favor of author JK Rowling and Warner Bros. in their case against RDR Books. Judge Robert Patterson said that Rowling had proved the potential for irreperable damage to her intellectual property and RDR had failed to demonstrate fair use rationale.

Update: Win a chance to review 'Tales of the Beedle the Bard' in London from Amazon
Last December we told you that Amazon had purchased J.K. Rowling's "Tales of the Beedle the Bard" for £1,950,000 ($3,980,128.89). Now they are giving fans a chance to review the book for a weekend in a writing contest. Update: Amazon answers the question as to why fans from certain countries are only allowed to enter the contest.

'Harry Potter' books to be auctioned at Christie's today
An auction at Christie's International auction house in London today will include a rare first edition of J.K. Rowling's "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone," one of only 500 printed, and is expected to fetch between $8,075 to $12,100. The book, part of the Fine Printed Books including Children's & Illustrated Books auction is just one lot of the series, which also includes a first edition of "Chamber of Secrets" and an uncorrected edition of "Prisoner of Azkaban."

'Potter' series nominated for Kid's Choice Award 2008
The Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards for 2008 have been announced and the "Harry Potter" book series has been nominated in their "Favorite Book" category. The show will air live from Los Angeles on Saturday, March 29th, with host Jack Black.

'Harry Potter' included in 'Details' magazine 'Power & Influence' issue
The December issue of 'Details' magazine, titled the 'Power and Influence' issue, includes a list of the year's top 50 most influential men under 45 and at the 41 is fictional character "Harry Potter."

Update: 'James Potter and the Elder's Crossing' may face legal challenge from Rowling
A few weeks ago we first reported denials from J.K. Rowling's camp that she was writing an eighth "Harry Potter" book called "James Potter and the Elder's Crossing." Now comes news that the author of this book, which will be available via the internet starting in December, may face legal action from JKR. Update It is now being reported that the author has an email giving him the okay to write the amateur novel.

Elder's Crossing, James Potter, Book 8, RIP
Rumors of an eighth "Harry Potter" book have plagued the fandom for years, even after vehement denials by JK Rowling and her representatives. Well, we can put another to rest. You may have seen a professionally crafted web site called "Elder's Crossing" that seems to hint at a story involving James Potter. HPANA can now confirm that it is not connected in any official way to the series.

National Braille Press announce online auction for complete signed set of 'Harry Potter' books
The National Braille Press has just announced that their online auction featuring a rare complete edition of the "Harry Potter" novels, signed by J.K. Rowling, is now open. The auction, to support the 'Hands On! Books for Blind Children gala,' is open from today through October 25th and will finalize with a gala event on October 26th hosted by "Tonight Show" host, Jay Leno.

JK updates FAQ book section
JK Rowling has updated her web site's FAQ section on the books, answering questions about Draco, Voldemort's birthday and what houses Tonks and Myrtle were in. As for book 7, the author left rather cheeky responses to the most pressing queries.

Voting now open for Kid's Choice Award 2007
Last month we told you that the "Harry Potter" book series had been nominated in the "Favorite Book" category of this years Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards for 2007. Fans are now able to vote online in a total of 16 categories and the show will air live from Los Angeles on Saturday, March 31, with host Justin Timberlake.

Potter series tops list of most challenged books
As we enter into the 25th anniversary of Banned Books Week, the American Library Association has published a list of the most challenged books in the last five years and the "Harry Potter" series by JK Rowling is at the number one spot.

'Potter' nominated for 2006 Kids' Choice Awards
Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards 2006 has given the "Harry Potter" book series and the "Goblet of Fire" film each a nomination in the respective categories "Favorite Book" and "Favorite Movie." The winners will be announced during the show's airing on April 1st, and is decided upon by online votes.
