Official UK movie site updates with PoA pics Popular (5990)

Putting a stop to endless speculation as to whether recently published pictures from the set of Prisoner of Azkaban were rehearsal shots or not, the official UK movie site has put up a few of the ones we've seen, labeling them as images from the upcoming theatrical filmopens in new window. And yes, they are wearing normal clothes, not robes. Take a deep breath.

Some comments that highlight the great divide this issue has caused are well put by HPANA member Aravis:

I am not going to get over the fact that the characters aren't wearing robes! Some people have pointed out that in the other movies occasionally the trio wasn't wearing robes. Well I've been rereading PoA and in the Shrieking Shack scene the trio were definitely wearing robes. Also, when Hermione attacks Draco, they are in between classes so both of them (with Crabbe and Goyle) would at the very least be wearing a school uniform. I mean, looking at the pics I could be looking at any upcoming cheap teen flick.

Their robes are part of the wizarding world, which brings me to another point: the pure-blood wizards don't usually own muggle clothing at all! I mean, in GoF wizards were wearing all sort of muggle clothing that didn't match or the guys were in dresses or something because they didn't usually wear muggle clothing! Now, Hermione and Harry live with muggles, and Ron's dad works in the Muggle Dept., but Draco would rather be caught dead than wear muggle clothing and suddenly he's dressed like he's walked straight out of GQ.

I say we need to see CuarĂ³n's final product before we judge.

And doesn't everybody love how un-up to date the HP WB site tends to be. That Prophet article will stay like that for several months I imagine. I'f I were the WB, I'd maye the Official Daily Prophet act like the real thing. You know, Daily. Geezz.

it is absolutely stupid that he is changing fundamentals, robes are fundamental. I appreciated columbus because he worked so hard to be true to the books, but curon is making changes that do not need to be made.

I don't consider basic seperated Muggle clothes. Because of the style of the movie robes, people obviously wear jumpers/sweaters, shirts, and various types of pants/trousers under there robes. It's the style that bothers me, Wizards (even Wizard teens) wouldn't have that type of awareness of Muggle fashion. And muggle born wizard teens would make an effort to fit in with the Wizard-born teens, not the other way around. There are proubly Wizard shops that sell basic separates, but most wizards have a hard enough time converting money for situations where it's neccessary to do so. The chance that they're keeping up with the height of muggle fashion is slim.

They pay costuming people to outfit people in movies for a reason. It's to make these people fit a character. I don't care how cute Emma looks with curly blond hair and with her own trendy clothes, Emma is playing Hermione and I just don't think they have the same sense of style, in fact Emma even said so in some interview. Hermione suppose to have this whole hip to be a geek thing going on even in her Muggle clothes. Even if we assume the time line of the movies is 'current time' I just don't see Hermione dressing in that outfit. Not to mention, Hermione is the only one with access to decent non-school clothes in the trio. Harry's suppose to have two types of clothes, Duddley's hand-me-downs and school wear. So why I can accept maybe he picked up a decent pair of trousers and sweater in a wizard shop somewhere with his Wizard money, it's harder for me to accept something that looks like it came from the gap. We all have little things that bother us and the clothes do.

Am I saying the movie's going to suck? No I'm quite fond of the kids now and am mostly pleased with what I know of Curaon as a director. I also am glad that for once Harry's hair is going to look a bit unkempt, more like Harry hair. And I know there are Robes for classes still. But I'm not going to pretend the little things that aren't okay with me are.

I've got to agree with Avaris: the robes are vital. I'm reading GOF right now and the images of wizards wearing muggle clothes trying to be incognito is hilarious! Wizards are oblivious to so many aspects of muggle society, including fashion.

I think that it adds a certain something to the movie when they wear different clothes but if they don't wear robes that would be weird...
