What's it going to be then, eh? The latest rumor
from Wizard News is that Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, scheduled for release in 2005, will be longer than the previously rumored length of 2-1/2 hours.
Wizard News has now learned, according to reliable sources inside Warner Brothers, that they are looking into the possibility of making Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire into one movie, four hours long, with an intermission.
It is not known whether this change in thinking on the part of Warner Brothers was due to fan input
, or someone inside Warner Brothers who likes the Harry Potter stories enough to insist they not be butchered. In any event, this is very good news for Harry Potter fans!
Good news, indeed - although the key word here is rumor...

I really hope this rumour turns out to be true, because if they butcher GOF they may as well not bother makeing any more of the books into films.
Lord of the Rings would have probably been a very different story if they had restricted each of the chapters to two and a half hours.
Lets hope that WB are listening to the fans about this.

It would be great for them not only to have the intermission (which I agree, I've been posing this option forever) but if they pull a LotR and use an extended version for the DVD. I won't be too terribly picky if they make it 4 hours though. ;)

That would be excellent news indeed if it turns out to be true! At this point I'm not picky, I'd be happy with either a 4- or 5-hour movie to sit through (intermission or no) OR a two-movie set like Matrix... anything but hacking GOF to bits just to smush it into a standard runtime. The book is a fantastic part of the series imo & it deserves some justice on the big screen!

It is wonderful news, or at least the starting of it. I don't know why they even have to consider it because the LOTR Two Towers was amazing and that was long. The first lotr was shorter and I found it more boring and dragging so it doesn't depend on the length, just the excitement.

These are really good news. I expected PoA longer than the first two movies, but I just can't wait to watch 4 hours of Harry Potter. Wonderful! I hope that this rumor is true and that they do not change their mind during the next months. If WB are worried about the problem of earning less money because they can't show a 4-hour-movie as often as a 2 1/2-hour-movie, I'll promise to watch GoF two, three or four times!

THe ;onger the better! At least they'll keep as close to the book as possible. And I like long movies. You totally get into the story when it's longer than 1h1/2.
Hope it's true!

I really hope this is true. I know we were all very upset when it was announced that GoF would only be 2 1/2 hours long. This book is so integral to the entire series, they have to give as much attention to it as possible. PLEASE let it be true!

hmm..good for the fans, but a 4 hour movie will cost more and it will be harder for the marketing.
Then again, nobody ever said it was easy to bring a book with 800 pages to the movie screen, right?

This is great news (if it's true). I mean LOTR is rumored to be a 4 hr movie & if it does well I'm sure that Warner Bros. will take notice.

Accio Brain says:
I think that's a dumb idea. Most of the kids today have ADD and there's no way they're gonna sit long enough even if it is Harry Potter. Besides, you'd have to plan your day around seeing the movie and the theaters won't be too keen on that because they can only have about 3 showings per screen. They should just go back to the 2 movie thing.

Accio Brain: I was thinking the same thing too. Where I teach (secondary school) they have ADD at least once a day *smile* well they really can't concentrate so imagine what goes on in primary school. Anyway I think they will go too or end up doing something like The Matrix.

Wow! 4 hours is really long but i will go and see it. But that means that its probaly going to take a longer period of time to film. Oh well i can wait. GOF is like my favorite book so i will definately go see it if it is 4 hours.

I think that the intermission idea is good, and I think that fans will watch it at that length. I have noticed that even the persons in my family that are 'focus-challenged' will watch hours of TV/movies, given the opportunity. :)

It's just a crazy idea think to make a movie based on the fourth book only squeezed into 2.5 hour... I hope that is not only a rumor

I would love the globet of fire to be 4 hours long it makes sense because the prisoner of azkaban should be 3 hours and the goblet of fire i'm sure it will be 31/2 or 4 hours.

M. Sebastian says:
Four hours or two films? I think a four hour film with added scenes on the DVD (as on the LOTR's DVDs) would be the best idea as I don't think I would want to wait a year between films. If you can't sit through four hours, you will just have to go twice. Watch the part before the intermission one day and go back the next and watch the rest. That would make the theatres happy also as they would get the price of two admissions!
