The British
and American
publishers of Harry Potter have posted the jacket covers for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. The children's British versions by Jason Cockcroft, shows Harry and Dumbledore in rings of fire and the adult version is from a photograph by Michael Wildsmith showing a tattered book called Advanced Potion-Making.
The Scholastic cover by Mary GrandPré was debuted this morning on NBC's Today
show (click for video!). On the American edition, Harry and Dumbledore are looking into what seems to be a pensive.
Click here for all three covers (biggest available online).
Update: Read Raincoast Books' press release
, Scholastic's press release
, and Bloomsbury's press release
. Also, see this photo of artist Mary GrandPré at her studio
with the book cover on her desk.

Oh, this is so exciting! I could only view the Scholastic one from my computer (long story), but I'll be able to see the Bloomsbury ones when I'm at home. It does appear to be a pensieve on the Scholastic one, but I wonder what a tattered book and a ring of fire have to do with the story. Tom Riddle's diary was a tattered book. There was fire all around Harry when he faced down Voldemort in Book 1. Oh, I really can't stand it! I hate waiting!

Oh, this is so exciting! I love the Scholastic cover and they adult cover, you can tell alot about the story from the covers, and it looks like they are looking into a pensive, and an old book like a diary or Journal. I can hardly wait!

The Childrens British cover looks fantasic. As does the adults, is this hinting that Harry will be studying advanced potions in HBP?
I'm even more excited now. Why is July 16th still so far away?

Now that is something. The covers for both publishers released on the same day. We are going to see a lot of talk with the release of the covers. New theories will surely come out. :)
I say that the Half Blood Prince is Godric Gryffindor and the penseive thing is Harry learning more about his parents, specifically his mother.

Brilliant as usual. I'm quite glad all three are very different. Gives us tiny hints, although I have no idea what to make of them yet.... Today is interviewing a Scholastic editor this morning as well. I hope to read a transcript of that.

Just an aside, the purple which was said to be the main color of the book cover for HBP did not come out as expected although it did come out as one of the cover colors for scholastic.
As I see it the children's cover for Bloomsbury seems exciting but the cover for Scholastic tells us more about the book. It is expected that there's going to be a fight with LV but the pensieve scene is open to interpretation and wll need a lot of thought as to what is in store for us in the book.
When do you suppose the blurb in the jacket will be released by both publishers?

Woah, I really like the Scholastic cover. I wonder if that's really a pensive? It might not be, because that seems sort of obvious. The books have never mentioned a pensive on a pillar, so maybe it's something we haven't seen before. Did anyone else notice that on the children's cover, their wands look like they're melting?
730 pages! I am so excited!
