Children in Scotland recently voted on their favorite Scottish books and JK Rowling's "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" came in first in the 8-12 years category. While Ms. Rowling was not present at the award ceremony she did say in a speech, read by her editor, that she is busy on the last book and that it is "coming along nicely."

Two million paperback versions of "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" are set to go on sale today in North America. The book will cost $9.99 and is certain to be a best seller. Additionally, The Kids and Family Reading Report found that both kids and their parents credit the popular books with getting more kids to read for fun, as well as helping children do better in school.

A 10-month wait for Japanese fans will finally end as the Japanese translation of "Half-Blood Prince," "Harry Potter to Nazo no Purinsu" ("Harry Potter and the Puzzling Prince") will be released on May 17.

Earlier this evening the Nickelodeon's 2006 Kid's Choice Awards was held and "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" won the 'Movie of the Year' award and the sixth book in the "Harry Potter" series, "Half-Blood Prince" won for the 'Book of the Year.'

Aaron Lambert, a security guard who stole two copies of "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" has been sentenced to four-and-a-half-years for a firearms offence connected to the theft of the book before it's released.

Paperback 'Prince' to see Canada, U.S. release July 25, 2006  Comments (252)
Scholastic this morning announced that their paperback edition of "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" will be released July 25, 2006. At 672 pages and priced at $9.99, the 2 million print run will bring the total number of "Potter" books in print in the U.S. to more than 120 million. Bloomsbury previously announced the UK edition would be released June 23, 2006.

The number one selling book in the U.S. for 2005 was "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince." The book sold 7.2 million copies throughout 2005 and its first day's sales totaling 4.1 million outsold other books' yearly totals. Meanwhile, a review of the audio version describes Stephen Fry's reading as "... captivating stuff in Fry's hands and he is terrific in the way he can convey the difference between the nastiness, say, of Draco Malfoy and the truly black evil of some of the death eaters."

"Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" was voted the best book of 2005 in USA Today's Readers' Choice poll. While editors placed it at eighth, they offered another interesting category: "Best book for kids not yet ready for Harry Potter."

Earlier this week we told you that "Half-Blood Prince" and "Goblet of Fire" had topped their respective categories in "Entertainment Weekly's Best of 2005" poll. We can now add that "Harry Potter" has landed at the number 9 spot on their "2005 Entertainers of the Year" list and the book "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" landed at number 7 on their best fictional books of 2005.

Back in June we told you about two British men who were arrested for trying to sell a copy of "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" while armed to a reporter. One of those arrested, Aaron Lambert, admitted to all the charges, as well as two counts of trying to blackmail UK Potter publisher Bloomsbury.

Entertainment Weekly magazine's "Best of 2005" year-end poll includes "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" and "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire." Both "Harry Potter" entries crushed the competition in their respective categories.
